Privacy policy

The short version. cafein collects almost nothing. The caffeine logs you create stay on your device. We do not sell your data, ever. We do not run ads. We do not track you across other apps or websites.

What data we collect, and why

1. Caffeine logs and settings (on your device)

Every coffee, tea, or other caffeinated drink you log is stored locally on your iPhone, plus your bedtime, wake time, and personal half-life calibration. These never leave your device unless you choose to sync them to Apple Health (see below).

2. Apple Health integration (optional)

If you enable Apple Health sync, cafein writes your caffeine intake to Apple Health (HKQuantityTypeIdentifierDietaryCaffeine) and reads back any caffeine entries you have added from other apps or shortcuts. Apple Health data is encrypted on-device and synced through your iCloud account, controlled entirely by you. cafein never receives a copy of this data.

3. Subscription and purchase data (handled by Apple)

cafein Pro subscriptions are processed by Apple. We never see your credit card or payment details. We use RevenueCat to verify your subscription status. RevenueCat receives an anonymous user ID and your subscription state — no personally identifiable information.

4. Anonymous analytics

We use PostHog to track aggregate, anonymous usage events such as "a user opened the paywall" or "a user ran a simulation". These events use a random device-level ID and never contain the contents of your caffeine logs, your name, your email, or any other identifying information.

5. Crash and error reports

We use Sentry to capture crash reports and unexpected errors. These reports include technical details such as iOS version, device model, and a stack trace, but do not contain your caffeine logs or personal information.

6. Support emails

If you email [email protected], we receive your email address and the contents of your message. We use this only to reply to you.

What we do not do

• We do not sell your data.
• We do not run ads.
• We do not share your caffeine logs with anyone.
• We do not track you across other apps or the web.
• We do not require an account.

Data retention

Your caffeine logs persist on your device until you delete them or uninstall cafein. Apple Health entries follow Apple Health’s retention rules and are managed by you. Anonymous analytics and crash reports are kept for up to 90 days, then deleted.

Children

cafein is not directed at children under 13 and is rated for users 17+ on the App Store. We do not knowingly collect data from children.

Your rights

You can:

• Delete your data at any time by uninstalling cafein from your iPhone.
• Disable Apple Health sync from cafein Settings to stop further sharing.
• Export a CSV of your caffeine logs (cafein Pro), or read them via Apple Health.
• Email us at [email protected] to request deletion of any data we hold about you (support emails, anonymous IDs).

International users

cafein is available globally. By using cafein, you consent to your information being processed in jurisdictions where our service providers (Apple, RevenueCat, PostHog, Sentry) operate, including the United States and the European Union. All data is transmitted using HTTPS.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be flagged in the app. The "Last updated" date at the top of this page reflects the most recent revision.
